First of all the app I am recommending in by preference only from what I have used. If your used to another app by all means use it.

I use the app called ANDCHAT its available for free in the playstore on android phones.

Once you've downloaded and installed this app here is how you set it up.

1.) When you first run it it'll ask you if you want it to add servers for you to get you started choose NO.

2.) Press the + symbol at the top right (this is to add server manually) and Server setting window will popup

3.) These are the settings you should use and change

BASIC SETTINGS
Name: GridironGamers
Address: irc.gamesurge.net
Port: 6667

EXTRA SETTINGS
Nick 1: Your nickname. For example XrunnerBSP
Nick 2: Your alt nickname. For example XRunnerBSP-Phone
Nick 3: Leave it as is or change it if you like

Username & Real Name you have 3 options
1. leave as it
2. change to your usual nickname (i used XRunnerBSP for both)
3. Just delete them and leave them blank. (optional) will display if you deleted them.

Autojoin: #GridironGamers

LOGS: uncheck this box there is no need for you to keep logs and not sure why they set it up to keep logs for a portable device lol

Thats it.. save and your done (save is middle button top right)

that is all the settings you wont have to touch these ever again. So don't worry or think you gotta go through this process everytime.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
If you've setup and registered your nickname you can add autorun commands but since I doubt most have nor need too don't worry about this for now.

To connect just tap the server you created it will then connect and cause you setup autojoin will bring you right to the Gridirongamers channel.

To disconnect you have 2 options
1. Press the #AndChat in the top left corner it'll bring you back to the server listing tap and hold the server box and a menu will popup saying Disconnect, Edit, Delete. Choose Disconnect.
2. Click the chat icon with a x in it at the top and it will disconnect you from the server.

This program will run in the back round so just pressing back or home will not shut it down or disconnect you so please make note of this if your in a wifi area and about to leave it so it doesnt stay connected.

When your in the channel you'll see at the top 2 boxes one saying Status and one saying #Gridirongamers those are the windows that are currently open. When you receive a PM another box will appear up there with the username of who's messaging you..

To send PM's you have two options.
1. Click the userlist button (top right corner has a human symbol) it'll slide out a panel showing all the users in the channel. Click the name of the person you wanna message a menu pops up at the top just press Message and it'll open a new window for you to PM with them
2. type /msg nickname message
so for example if you wanted to message me and I was on using my regular nick XRunnerBSP.
You would type /msg XRunnerBSP let's talk business
again it'll open new window for PM

To close a PM window press and hold that window name and a menu pops up asking you to clear or close. Just choose close and that's that..

these are the basics and although I suck at trying to describe how to use them and prolly made them sound absolutely complicated they really aren't. Whether your new to IRC or have used it in the past it's a pretty simple and basic program.

Any questions feel free if i'm in the chat to ask and I can try to better explain things if your having trouble.

try uninstalling and reinstalling and when it asks you to load server list to get you started choose no.

Might be a default thing with teh server list? *shrug*

I choose no and only added Gamesurge and I havent had any issues connecting on 3G or Wifi.
